Since John McCain has emerged as the Republican Party frontrunner, conservatives have been distraught at the prospect of a McCain presidency. McCain is recognized as a Democrat in Republican clothing with good cause. He has frequently reached across the aisle to push legislation contrary to Republican values. In fact, the considerable list does give even those with the smallest touch of conservative values cause for concern: McCain/Kennedy, McCain/Feingold, McCain/Insert Liberal Name Here…
However, Conservative Republicans’ distain for McCain will pale by comparison to another Clinton White House. In fact, when they think about it, they will find another 4 or 8 years of a Clinton White House completely unpalatable. Thoughts of the Clintons selling the Lincoln Bedroom to highest bidder, giving US secrets to China, and the revolving door of women for Bill Clinton in the White House are just a start! Flash forward to a loose canon First Gentleman slandering anyone who disagrees with him. Think about the Clinton’s ongoing questionable loyalties… conflicts of interest abound. Dick Morris has thoroughly documented the Clinton’s owning stocks from foreign companies seeking to do business with US.*
And, if those thoughts aren’t enough to change any Conservative Republican’s mind, all they have to do is consider the Global War on Terror under Hillary’s watch. A couple bouts of waterworks aside (authenticity on those instances are in doubt, to say the least) one just has to believe that a Hillary Clinton presidency would bring the GWOT to our doorstep once again. Don’t get me wrong; this isn’t because she’s a female. In fact, it is because her stance on issues changes with the political wind, just as her husband’s did. Despite much rhetoric about a tough stance against terrorism, one just has to remember Mogadishu to acknowledge that the Clintons can’t stomach a tough war on terror. Although former President Clinton would like to everyone to think it was George HW Bush that had the events of Black Hawk Down during his watch, it was actually Clinton who would not commit air support to a humanitarian operation. After the public shock of watching US troops being killed in the streets, Clinton hastily pulled out of Somalia.** By his own admission, Usama Bin Laden felt emboldened by Clinton’s weak political stomach. In short, a Hillary Clinton presidency will make a terrorist’s day.
The reality is the country wants significant change from President Bush, despite the fact that history will paint him as an astute leader. (History will recognize a rare blend of leader who recognized the threat and had the courage of conviction to address it head on). The country wants someone who is more malleable and centrist. Many characterize McCain as a Democrat in Republican’s clothing. Given his track record, he should receive a significant Democrat and Independent vote. For Republicans, the handwriting is on the wall; accept a less than perfect Republican president or brace yourselves for another 8 years of immorality in the White House and an emboldened terrorist threat.
