In the last few weeks, several disturbing incidents have transpired which makes one wonder, “What planet are we on?” A quick laundry list includes: a librarian was fired for turning in a man looking at child porn in her library; a judge in Oklahoma found that a sixteen year old girl had no reasonable expectation to privacy under her skirt while in Target; and a twelve year old girl was found stripping in Dallas suburb. In the last several years, America has been fighting a bitter war to protect our children. Unfortunately, when stories of this nature come out, it makes TPB believe we’re losing.
Girls think that dancing provocatively and showing body parts to attract the opposite sex is fine. We have Hollywood celebrities like Paris and Brittney to thank for that. However, the case in Dallas is extreme! Adults facilitated the twelve-year-old girl stripping. The strip club owners ignored the fact they had an underage stripper. The child couldn’t produce identification and only stated she was 19 after management informed her that’s the age she would have to be to work there.
Now a court says that photographing up a girl’s skirt in public isn’t illegal. One would think common sense should prevail here, but the law hasn’t kept up with technology. While TPB doesn’t agree with legislating from the bench, this is painful. Do we have to legislate with the specificity of the hair on a gnat’s fanny?
For years we’ve been wondering why teen pregnancy is rampant. Definitely one of the more obvious cases here is Jamie Lynn Spears, Brittney’s sister, who is pregnant at the age of 16. Nickelodeon did not pull Jamie Lynn’s show, citing a lack of an outcry over the issue. Really? The target audience for Miss Spears’ show is tweens. Miss Spears isn’t exactly role model material for that age group. It would seem Nickelodeon is contributing to the problem. Several years ago, coinciding with the emergence of the Bratz dolls, the name “prosti-tot” came about. Media and toy companies are glamorizing little girls dressing provocatively at an age where they don’t even comprehend the consequences. It is likely the consequences of Nickelodeon and the media glamorizing Miss Spears will be realized in a few short years when the tweens become teens that trivialize sexual activity.
The librarian getting fired over turning in a man viewing child pornography is beyond belief! The woman should be hailed a hero, not fired! Pedophilia is on the rise thanks to internet porn sites that make these lunatics hope that their behavior may be acceptable. Evidently the librarian’s superiors were more concerned about the lawbreaker’s rights (it’s illegal to download child porn) than the rights of the children he was viewing! Inconceivable!
America has been losing the battle to keep our children innocent. There are some bright spots: Bill O’Reilly has done a great job getting Jessica’s Law passed. But we have a long way to go; our nation must stand up for our children’s innocence. Common sense must prevail over the media’s desire to glorify indecency toward our children. If the culture doesn’t change, what kind of world will our children’s children will be raised in?
